Proper candle care helps your candle burn safely, evenly, and beautifully while extending its life and fragrance performance. Follow these simple tips to get the most from your candle.

Before Lighting Your Candle

Trim the Wick

Always trim your wick to approximately 1/4 inch (6mm) before each burn. This helps:

  • Prevent excessive smoke and soot
  • Create a cleaner, more even burn
  • Avoid large or flickering flames
  • Extend the life of your candle

Use a wick trimmer, scissors, or nail clippers for best results.

The First Burn Matters Most

The first burn sets the “memory” of your candle.

Allow the wax to melt evenly across the entire surface before extinguishing. This usually takes:

  • 2–4 hours depending on the candle size

If the wax does not fully melt to the edges during the first burn, tunneling can occur, causing wasted wax and an uneven burn for the life of the candle.

Recommended Burn Times

For the best performance:

  • Burn your candle for at least 2 hours
  • Do not burn longer than 4 hours at a time

Burning too long can cause:

  • Overheating
  • Mushrooming wicks
  • Excessive soot
  • Reduced fragrance quality

Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.

How to Extinguish Your Candle

For the cleanest burn:

  • Use a candle snuffer whenever possible
  • Alternatively, gently dip the wick into melted wax and straighten it again

Avoid blowing candles out aggressively, as this may create smoke and disturb the wick.

Wax Pool & Flame Tips

A healthy candle flame should be calm and steady.

If your flame becomes too large:

  1. Extinguish the candle
  2. Allow the wax to cool
  3. Trim the wick before relighting

If soot appears:

  • Trim the wick shorter
  • Keep the candle away from drafts

Storing Your Candle

To preserve fragrance and wax quality:

  • Store candles in a cool, dry place
  • Keep away from direct sunlight
  • Replace lids when not in use to protect from dust and preserve scent

Proper storage helps prevent discoloration and fragrance fading.

When to Stop Burning Your Candle

Discontinue use when:

  • Approximately 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel

Burning beyond this point may cause the container to overheat or crack.

Candle Care Best Practices at a Glance

  • Trim wick before every burn
  • Allow a full melt pool each burn
  • Burn 2–4 hours at a time
  • Keep away from drafts
  • Never leave unattended
  • Store in a cool, dry place
  • Stop use when 1/2 inch of wax remains

Thank you for caring for your candle properly. With the right care, your candle will provide a cleaner burn, stronger fragrance, and a longer-lasting experience.

Important Candle Safety Instructions

Never Leave a Burning Candle Unattended

Always extinguish candles before leaving a room, going to sleep, or leaving your home. A burning candle should always remain within sight.

Keep Away From Children & Pets

Place candles out of reach of children and pets at all times. Hot wax, open flames, and heated vessels can cause injury.

Burn on a Heat-Resistant Surface

Always place your candle on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface away from anything flammable.

Do not place candles:

  • Near curtains or fabrics
  • On uneven surfaces
  • Near paper, books, or décor
  • Under shelves or cabinets

Keep Away From Drafts

Avoid burning candles near:

  • Fans
  • Air vents
  • Open windows
  • Breezeways

Drafts can cause uneven burning, excessive flickering, soot, or dangerous flare-ups.

Stop Burning When Wax Is Low

Discontinue use when approximately 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container.

Continuing to burn beyond this point may cause the vessel to overheat, crack, or shatter.

Keep Wax Pool Clean

Keep the wax pool free from:

  • Wick trimmings
  • Matches
  • Dust
  • Debris
  • Foreign objects

Objects left in the wax may ignite or interfere with safe burning.

Do Not Touch Hot Containers

Candles and containers become hot while burning.

Always:

  • Allow candle to cool completely before handling
  • Move candles only when extinguished and cooled
  • Use caution when touching glass or metal vessels

Burn Within Sight

Always monitor a burning candle carefully.

Extinguish immediately if:

  • Flame becomes excessively large
  • Candle smokes heavily
  • Glass becomes extremely hot
  • Wick shifts or moves
  • Candle repeatedly flickers dangerously

Extinguishing Your Candle Safely

Use a candle snuffer when possible.

Avoid extinguishing with water, as it may cause hot wax splatter or damage the container.

After extinguishing:

  • Ensure wick ember is fully out
  • Allow candle to cool before covering with lid

General Candle Warnings

  • Never use candles during a power outage without proper supervision
  • Never burn candles near oxygen tanks or flammable gases
  • Do not burn candles while driving or in moving vehicles
  • Do not use damaged candles or cracked containers
  • Never move a burning candle
  • Avoid touching or trimming a lit candle
  • Do not allow flame to touch the side of the vessel
  • Keep multiple burning candles at least 4 inches apart
  • Burn candles only in well-ventilated areas

Fire Safety Reminder

Candles are an open flame product and can present a fire hazard if not used properly.

By purchasing and using this candle, you accept responsibility for following all safety instructions and warnings.
